I firmly believe in staying fit because, as the saying goes; “ A healthy body is a healthy mind”, so that in itself expresses the importance of staying fit. If you are fit and healthy, it means that you generally have much more energy, you can cope with life and work and relationships easier, you are motivated, you feel good about yourself and your body, and your self-image improves.
Our bodies need exercise because it makes us more alert, it increases our creative process, it relieves anxiety and depression, and it helps to combat illness and ageing. So if you want to stay young, exercise!
Because I’m a runner myself, I will concentrate on running as an exercise to keep fit. Running is a very good form of exercise and relatively inexpensive because it doesn’t require expensive equipment like some other sports. You basically need a pair of running shoes, some shorts and a T-shirt and you can step out your front door and exercise. Because it’s very much an individual sport, you can do it at a time that suits you or you can plan to meet a partner or a group.
Whatever you do, you have to commit yourself to discipline. You have to have the determination to be consistent in your training and try to stick to a programme as closely as possible, unless you have to miss a session due to illness.
